Consumer Advocacy Program Takes Guesswork Out of Hiring Companies

Innovative Web Site Benefits Consumers and Businesses

PITTSBURGH, May 9, 2005 -  A local company is providing peace of mind to consumers and businesses by offering a free service to help them make informed choices when hiring professionals or buying products.
Higher Images Inc., founded in 2000, operates a Web site appropriately called DoYouKnowAGood.com. The site features factual information, testimonials and marketing materials of service providers in an effort to assist individuals in making educated decisions.

``In order to gain the amount of information provided on this site in a specific industry, it would take the average business or consumer hours to conduct the necessary research,’’ said Bryan Thornberg, company president. ``Our multimedia site is designed to save consumers time by consolidating a vast amount of information into one source. In addition to reviewing facts, testimonials and references on a particular business, they can read information about five similar companies in a single listing.’’

The Web site currently includes information on businesses in a variety of categories, such as home remodeling/construction, professional products and services, restaurants/hospitality, activities for children/youth, health/beauty/fitness, vehicles and other consumer goods. A free newsletter and membership card that offers coupons, discounts and other benefits are also available.

Companies that would like to be listed on DoYouKnowAGood.com must be in good standing with the Better Business Bureau and verify they have the necessary licenses and insurance coverage. Jen Stevens, Operations Manager for Higher Images, researches every company’s vital information and background before listing them on the site. As an added safety measure, a client feedback section lets consumers offer input about their experience with site members.

``I am so glad we are helping Pittsburghers find the facts first before putting their hard-earned money at risk,’’ said Stevens. ``Many of the potential clients don’t even qualify to be listed with us. We reject companies that practice deceptive advertising, engage in consumer scams, overcharge or under-deliver, don’t resolve customer complaints and have facilities that are not business-like.’’

Businesses listed on DoYouKnowAGood.com can benefit by the increased exposure and potential for gaining new customers. Paul M. Goltz, a local attorney, was one of the first clients to be listed on the Web site.

``I believe that law firms, companies and organizations that use the services of DoYouKnowAGood.com will benefit from their work,’’ said Goltz. ``They will grow and position your company for long-term success.’’

Thornberg said the number of visitor hits to the site has been increasing rapidly since the site became operational. He expects to grow the company nationally within the next two years and is already receiving inquiries from businesses in the New York, Atlanta, Florida and Texas markets.

Pittsburghers are asked to refer companies that have earned their respect and trust so the site will continue to grow and offer helpful information to consumers.

``Good people and businesses are hard to find,’’ said Thornberg. ``We want to take the worry out of hiring a business by providing free facts fast.’’
